  • Our Board-Certified Art Therapists and Certified Art Therapy Supervisors offer individual and group art therapy supervision for Provisional Registered Art Therapists who are gaining their supervised hours towards their ATR credential.

  • Our successful practice owner Tonia Herrero offers 1:1 consultation and mentorship to help aspiring therapy practice owners and group practice owners with tangible steps to create thriving practices.

At EBAT, we offer arts-based trainings and professional development for various types of professionals including Therapists, Educators (including Administrators), and Aspiring Art Therapists. All of our professional development programs are arts-based and highly experiential. We offer a variety of EBAT-hosted trainings and we also provide trainings and professional development for organizations and agencies across the greater San Francisco Bay Area.

We offer individual and group clinical supervision for Provisional Art Therapists (ATR-P) working on obtaining their supervised hours for their ATR credential. We utilize an experiential and arts-based approach to supervision.

Introduction to Art Therapy

Ever wondered if Art Therapy is the right career for you? This training provides a detailed overview of the steps it takes to become an art therapist for people in all stages of their educational or professional journey. In this training you will engage in multiple art therapy activities to learn for yourself what it feels like as a participant and provide you with a snapshot of what the career field may entail. Art Making for Clinician Self Care and Processing Therapeutic Relationships

Art making is not just for clients! Creative expression is a great self-care strategy for managing and preventing burn out, vicarious trauma, and compassion fatigue. Art making can also be a great tool for exploring our professional identity as clinicians and processing counter-transference. In this training, you will get hands-on experience with art making activities for self-care and for processing our relationships with clients, and professional identity.

Art Making for Educator Self-Care and Processing Vicarious Trauma in the Educational Environment

Being an educator is overwhelming and stressful, and it impacts us on a deep level. That is why it is important to take time to focus on ourselves and our own healing journey. The art making process is not only healing, but it can help us understand ourselves and our experiences on a deeper level. In this training, participants will actively engage in art processes that will be grounding, healing, and facilitate self-exploration and reflection. Psychoeducation about art therapy, burn out, and vicarious trauma as an educator will be provided.

Therapeutic Art Making in Clinical Practice for Non-Art Therapists

What may be difficult for our clients to express in words can become more accessible when they are given the opportunity to express themselves through a creative art form. Art making can serve as a bottom-up, somatic process that can help our clients communicate in a way that may feel safer for them. Although you will not become an Art Therapist after this training, you will be able to incorporate art making activities with your clients in individual or group settings that will help you build rapport and deepen the therapeutic process and relationship.

Trauma-Informed Therapeutic Arts for Social Emotional Learning in Art Education

Our students come to school with a multitude of trauma and complex psychological dynamics that effect not only their behavior and ability to learn as well as the way they orient themselves to the adults at school. Art educators have a unique opportunity to provide a therapeutic creative experience for students. In this training, the facilitator will provide an introduction to the field of art therapy, psychoeducation of trauma, what it means to be a trauma-informed educator, and offer arts lessons that promote social and emotional learning goals for students. Participants will actively engage in the creative process.

Therapeutic Art Making for Integration into DBT Treatment

Artmaking is a safe and experiential way for clients to practice DBT skills during treatment. Artmaking is also an opportunity for clients to explore DBT concepts to deepen their understanding of these consepts as well as express their thoughts and feelings in response to these concepts. Although you will not become an Art Therapist after this training, you will be able to incorporate art making activities within DBT treatment in individual or group settings. In this training you will learn psychology behind the art making process, be provided psychoeducation on DBT concepts and skills, and experience 4 arts-based interventions yourself.

Trauma-Informed Practices & Social Emotional Learning for Educators

Our students come to school with a multitude of trauma and complex psychological dynamics that effect not only their behavior and ability to learn, but the way they orient themselves to the adults at school. This has a deep effect on school culture and the personal and professional experience of educators. In this training, the facilitator will provide psychoeducation of trauma, what it means to be a trauma-informed educator and offer practical tools that can be used at school sites both in and out of the classroom to promote the best possible SEL outcomes for students as well as educator well-being.

1:1 Art Therapy Supervision

We offer weekly arts-based supervision for new art therapists who are working on their hours for their ATR (Registered Art Therapist) credential as well as the LAT/LCAT license in Oregon. 50 of the 100 supervision hours required to obtain the ATR must be with a Board Certified Registered Art Therapist (ATR-BC). Our supervisors help supervisees set professional and clinical goals, get feedback on cases, and process countertransference. All of our supervision is through a neurodivergent and LGBTQIA+ affirming, disability justice, trauma and social justice informed, and decolonial framework.

Custom Therapeutic Art Making Training for a Specific Presenting Issue

We design custom trainings for clinicians that focus on the implementation of therapeutic art making activities for clients with specific presenting issues and identities, such as: adolescents, children, autism, ADHD, substance use, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, psychosis, older adults, self-harm and suicidal ideation, personality disorders, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and more.

Group Art Therapy Supervision

Lauren Chester facilitates a Group Art Therapy Supervision for Art Therapists collecting hours for their ATR. Lauren brings over 15 years of clinical experience working with diverse populations and provides neurodivergent and LGBTQIA+ affirming, decolonial and disability justice oriented, trauma and social justice informed support,  mentorship and case consultation to supervisees in this group.

Creating a Trauma-Informed School (For School Administrators)

We work directly with K-12 school administrators either in a training format or individualized coaching in order to create a trauma-informed school. Administrators will learn trauma-informed strategies they can implement within their campus and faculty in order to create an environment where students succeed in both academics and social emotional learning objectives. Developing a trauma-informed school increases academica performance and attendance, decreases behavioral issues, and increases emotional and psychological well being for both students and faculty.

Using Creativity to Explore the Impact of Lived Experience in Trauma-Informed Care

Our own lived experience impacts how we respond to the presenting issues and lived experience of the individuals we work with, especially when trauma (theirs and our own) is involved. In this training, an overview of trauma and transference/countertransference will be provided and participants will engage in verbal and creative personal exploration of their countertransference with clients they wish to process. Participants will participate in arts-based activities to help them better understand their own triggers in the therapy room and how to use art making as a tool for personal  and professional exploration.

Therapeutic Art Making for Working with Grief

Grief is a powerful process that can be complex for our clients to work through. It may also bring up our own feelings or trigger our own experiences of grief and loss. In this arts-based training, participants will learn about the types of grief, stages of grief and engage in multiple art-making activities that they can implement with their clients as well as use on their own to manage their own countertransference. These activities also invite participants to explore their own relationship with grief.
