Jess Matos is a master’s-level and Registered Art Therapist (ATR) who earned her degree in Art Therapy from Florida State University. With over 14 years of clinical experience across California and Florida, Jess is passionate about the healing potential of creative expression and its ability to support emotional growth, self-awareness, and overall wellbeing. She has worked in numerous clinical settings with diverse populations and has helped implement art therapy programs at Cleveland Clinic and Advent Health in Florida. Jess is also a certified Hatha yoga and meditation instructor trained in India, integrating mindfulness and embodied practices into her work.
Jess specializes in children 4+, adolescents, and adults with depression, anxiety, autism, developmental and intellectual disabilities, ADHD, codependency, chronic pain and illness, self esteem issues, life transitions, creative professionals, and the LGBTQIA+ population.
Jess utilizes a humanistic, transpersonal, and solution-focused approach while incorporating to create a personalized therapeutic experience. She works with children, adolescents, and adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, stress, and identity exploration. Across diverse clinical settings, Jess has supported individuals in using art as a reflective process to process emotions, build resilience, and reconnect with their inner strengths.
Jess offers therapeutic counseling within a safe and nurturing environment where together clients can work on integrating parts of yourself to foster a deeper sense of wholeness in life. She welcomes her clients' intuition, imagination, strengths, and willingness to explore deeper aspects of yourself in therapy. She believes there is innate wisdom within you. It is important you feel heard, respected, and understood. As a therapist, she supports clients to express and process their present experience and identify new possibilities in the way they approach their lives.
Outside of her clinical work, Jess is inspired by her multicultural Puerto Rican and Swedish heritage and her upbringing across multiple countries, which deeply informs her creative perspective. She enjoys traveling, photography, writing, yoga, nature, and artistic exploration. Jess strives to create a warm, supportive space where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered to engage in meaningful self-expression and personal transformation.
Jess is available to see clients ages 4+ at our Oakland Office on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Jess offers therapy in English and Spanish.
