Dori Tung

She/Her

Art Therapist

Dori (she/her) is a Taiwanese, bilingual, cisgender Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Illinois and Provisional Registered Art Therapist (ATR-P). She came to North America at 18, which sparked a deeper interest in culture, identity, and the different ways people make meaning of their experiences. She earned her BA in Sociology with a minor in Educational Psychology from McGill University in 2019 before relocating to Chicago, where she later received her Master’s in Art Therapy and Counseling from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Her own relationship with art has been a meaningful part of how she explores and makes sense of her experiences. From hiding under a blanket to draw when it was time to sleep as a child to eventually getting messy with the whole table, art has always been a way for Dori to explore, express, and connect with herself, eventually leading her to art therapy.

Dori embraces a healing-centered approach rooted in connection and cultural humility. Her practice draws from person-centered, somatic, strengths-based, experiential, and relational frameworks, with attention to the intersections of culture, class, race, gender, and identity. Her experience spans community mental health and nonprofit youth settings, day and vocational programs, and outpatient clinical settings, where she has worked with BIPOC and immigrant communities, individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and older adults. She values creating spaces that foster safety, agency, belonging, and connection, while recognizing the ways our experiences are shaped by the communities around us. She is particularly interested in the sensory and embodied qualities of art-making and how materials, movement, repetition, and creativity can support regulation and self-expression.

Dori is a dog mom to her rescue dog, Auggie. They enjoy going on walks, exploring parks, and cuddling on the couch together. Dori also enjoys making her own clothes, weaving, knitting, and experimenting with natural dyes on paper and fabric. One of Dori’s future goals is to create accessible fiber arts patterns that make crafting more approachable and enjoyable for people of different skill levels.

Dori is available to see clients starting November 1st on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at the Oakland Office and Fridays and Saturdays at the San Jose Office. (As well as virtually). Dori offers therapy in both English and Mandarin. Dori also provides art therapy groups at elementary groups in Oakland Unified School District.
